Course Description
The course has been designed to provide basic emergency care knowledge and skills to the student
who will provide the first emergency care. The objective of the first person on the emergency scene will
be to recognize the needs of the victim and deliver quality care to the patient, minimizing discomfort and
preventing further complications.
Course Length:
44 Hours
Intended Audience
Firefighters,law enforcement officers, security personnel, public works employees, park rangers,
custom agents, lifeguards, corporate Medical Emergency Response Teams, and other interested
persons.
Required Student Materials, First Responder, 8th edition by J. David Bergeron, Gloria Bizjak, George W.
Krause and Chris Baudor Textbook Required.
Card Type: 3 year course completion certification
Written/Skills Exam: Required for completion card.
~1.>80% on a 50-question closed book test.
~2.The participant must perform the following skills/scenarios without assistance:
a. Mouth -to-Mask and Bag-Valve-Mask;
b. Upper Airway Adjuncts and Suction;
c. Patient Assessment/Management;
d. Management of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction(Adult/Child,Infant)- Responsive and
Unresponsive(if not required as prerequisite)
e. Adult CPR/AED(if not required as prerequisite)
f. Infant One- and Two-Rescuer CPR(if not required as prerequisite)
g. Automated External Defribrilation(if not required as prerequisite)
h. Bleeding Control/Shock Management (with or without supplemental emergency oxygen)
